Atlas Sound - Logos


As if he wished Logos could identify his brand of music, Atlas Sound’s latest album is a blend of everything ambiguous and cloudy, initiating a 44-minute chase for the intangible. Plenty of bands are incorporating noise into their music nowadays, but only a few do it well. Beginning with title track, “Logos,” Bradford Cox’s use of distortion is a recognizable indication that vocals are as much about lyrics as they are about sound.

Although it’s nearly impossible to understand what’s being said, due to the hazy noise that permeates this track, the entire album really, is a comforting affirmation that being confused can feel pretty good sometimes. Fluctuating between clarity and abstraction as the album progresses, songs like “Walkabout,” let ....
