Broken pieces

To be honest, I'm really not sure what to make of Lo-Fi For The Dividing Nights , the EP Broken Social Scene released alongside Forgiveness Rock Record a few weeks ago. On one hand, it sounds nothing like the BSS people have come to know and love (or, in some cases, hate). Whereas pretty much everything the band has released over the past decade sounds like the work of a few dozen immensely talented artists competing to have their voices heard, Lo-Fi For The Dividing Nights is incredibly minimalistic.

There are no guitar freak-outs, no layers upon layers of dense, fuzzy production, no songs with multiple lead singers (or, apart from "Songs For Dee", songs with vocals, period). Just -- ....
