Against Me! — White Crosses

Against Me!'s White Crosses is yet another move away from their folk-punk origins and a step towards more radio-friendly punk rock. Tom Gabel and company worked with Butch Vig (Nirvana, Garbage) again on the follow-up to 2007's New Wave , and the results are once again mixed. "White Crosses" and first single "I Was A Teenage Anarchist" are nothing but catchy, and should get the band further deserved airplay.

That's also the case with "Because Of The Shame," with its soaring, U2 and Tom Petty-esque "whoaa-ohhh-ohhh" chorus. The disc never really goes off track and it's consistent throughout, but its main problem is that the majority of its tunes don't really say anything in the same way Against Me!'s earlier ....
