Best Song Of All Time: "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" by the Small Faces
An absolutely perfect song. The first time I'd heard it I was absolutely floored. I extolled the virtues of this classic track before (on this blog) in a post about a different SF song: I love the Small Faces.

The first time I heard the song "What'cha Gonna Do About it?" I was pretty much set on finding anything I could by this band. But more importantly, "Why hadn't I ever heard of this band before?" I mean, they were R&B; as hell but had that buzzsaw guitar thing down pat. The other day I had dug through an batch of CDs to hopefully play in the car (our CD player is notorious for being "picky" about what it plays) and had picked out a collection of early Small Faces stuff.

While driving around I was getting into it, but was still skipping through certain tracks that seemed kinda stale. Then "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" came on and as many times as I had this song it felt as if it were the first time. While the studio version is great, nothing tops the raw power of the BBC session track.

It's totally apparent that whatever producer was involved with the original cut softened it up to yield a more radio friendly result. This is, indeed, a milestone in the history of Rock n' Roll. This post has: 1 MP3.
