  • Dot to Dot Festival 2012 - Nottingham
Words by Ali Lewsley Photos by Laura Patterson Dot to Dot has gone from strength to strength since it's modest beginnings in 2005. The festival has grown from being based at Rock City and the Rescue Rooms to venues across Nottingham, Bristol and Manchester. For those who still aren’t in the loop, Dot to Dot uses the South by South West festival format. Rather than watching bands in a big field on a stage miles away, Dot to Dot puts on gigs in small venues across the city at the same time. This year’s festival has 8 ...

  • Festival Review: Bushstock 2012
Bushstock (Shepherd's Bush, 2 June '12) // Words: Saam Das & Raman K Last Saturday, one side of London saw annual hipster extravaganza Field Day , while the other end of London saw annual multi-venue folk extravaganza Bushstock . It was double trouble in another sense as we took two writers to the latter festival, boldly going where no FG writer had gone before. Our adventure is recanted in full below. Beginning under the arches of St Stephen’s Church in Shepherds Bush, the soulful Mahalia kicked off our proceedings. Accomplished beyond her mere thirteen years, an obvious highlight is her cover of ...

  • Dot To Dot 2012 - Manchester
Dot to Dot Festival returned for another year in Manchester and it hasn’t let us down yet. It’s showcased some of best in music and there’s always the chance to discover some talent you may not have noticed yet. Milk Maid kick started the day at Zoo, which includes Nine Black Alps ex-bassist, Martin Cohen. They put on a mellow set and settled the crowd into the start of Dot to Dot Festival 2012. Such a great band to kick off any festival. Bastille played two sets over at HMV Ritz after a cancellation from Summer Camp ...

  • Dot To Dot 2012 - Nottingham
With every city seeming to have its own multi-venue day festival, we’re at Dot to Dot, a three city festival, where it all started: Nottingham. With arguably one of the better line ups, shunning the usual names that seem to be playing everywhere, we genuinely are dot to dotting across town all day trying to avoid the clashes, of which, inevitably, there are loads. First up for the day is dreamy synth poppers Bastille. It has only just gone lunchtime and the main room at Rock City is packed. Originally just a one man band, Dan Smith put together ...

  • The Hundred In The Hands + Her Magic Wand | ..

  • Rockness 2012 // The 405 Preview
Rockness is now only 10 days away, and as we here at the 405 are going to be travelling up to the picturesque highlands of Scotland for the occasion, we felt it only fair to give you a run down of some of the artists we’re most looking forward to seeing. It feels like a long time ago since I saw Mumford & Sons performing in a pub to myself and 50 other people, however even as their dizzying rise to fame continues to grow, they are one of the few current crop of British ‘super bands’ that appear to always put in a spectacular performance. Accompanying them on the main stage are fellow folk inspired musicians Noah and the Whale, along with Scotland’s own Admiral Fallow who are set to create a rousing atmosphere as they take to the main stage of Rockness for the first time in their career. Across in the Goldenvoice arena there are performances from the likes of The Correspondents and Etienne De Crecy, however it is the arrival of the fantastically named The Internet that will draw some of the biggest crowds. Formed by Syd tha Kyd and producer Matt Martians from OFWGKTA, The Internet released their debut record on OFWGTKTA’s own label, and ever since have seen a rising popularity. Hudson Mohawke is another pick of the day, especially as his production on the latest Azealia Banks’ track made it the best release from her since the famed release of ‘212’. Deadmau5 takes the headline slot on Saturday; however it is the likes of Justice and Jacques Lu Cont that are set to be our highlights of the day, with Justice’s record Audio, Video, Disco receiving near universal positive reviews. This, along with the ...

Bushstock Festival (Shepherds Bush, 2 June '12) // Words: Saam Das Multi-venue inner city festival have become all the range in the past few years and why the devil not? Instead of wading through the mad of a Glastonbury or having to travel to the middle of rural nowhere, the likes of The Great Escape , Camden Crawl and Bushstock offer an increasingly tempting alternative to the traditional festival. More importantly, a collection of great bands will be descending on West London at Bushstock this Saturday. Run by the esteemed folk behind the Communion record label, Bushstock 2012 takes in four venues ...
